101-year-old woman evicted from home, government won’t let her return
Who says you can’t go home? In the case of 101-year-old Detroit resident Texana Hollis, the federal government. The woman, who lived in her home for 60 years, was evicted from her home in September by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development after she was unable to pay property taxes on her reverse mortgage. A couple days later, she was told she could return home, but HUD later said her home was in such disrepair that they wouldn’t allow it. But all is not lost; other agencies might be able to help fix the home up. Hollis, meanwhile, is staying with a friend who offered her a free room. Where’s Ty Pennington when you need him? So we putting CENTENARIANS OUT INTO DETROIT WINTERS!?!?
Lord I”m calling cause I can’t
What. The. Fuck. The last thing grandmas need is freaking stress like this.
I’ve seen two stories about this on the news. Friends have her staying in their home for now, and some carpenter actually donated a free wheelchair ramp that he built himself for her when he heard about how hard it was for them to get her out of the house to go do things.
And also, they’re renting the house next door to theirs once it’s fixed up so she can have a house all to herself, but won’t have people to take care of her very far away.
